Personal statement

Laura Murray graduated with a BSc Hons in Prosthetics and Orthotics from the University of Strathclyde in 2005.  After graduation Laura moved to East Anglia working as a dual practising prosthetist/ orthotist for 8 years followed by a further 5 years focussing on prosthetics.  Laura was promoted assistant service manager in 2008 and became a centre manager in 2011.  In 2017 Laura returned to Glasgow to take up a role as a Teaching Fellow in the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics, Department of Biomedical Engineering.  During her clinical practice Laura was involved in provision of Veteran care, clinical conferences and a variety of MDT clinics in both prosthetics and orthotics.

Teaching

Laura teaches at both undergraduate and post graduate level in all areas of lower limb prosthetics but with a focus on paediatric,  transtibial and transfemoral interventions.  In addition to this teaching clinical governance and prosthetics on the distance learning courses.

Research Interests

Laura has been involved in a variety of research projects.  This has included pedagogical research with a focus on student placement and practice educator experiences.  Gait analysis and the impact of prosthetics interventions on gait.  She has also undertaken research around the areas of activity monitoring and activity recognition. 

Laura has an interest in advanced technologies both in terms of socket design and fabrication and component provision.  These developing areas are integrated and reviewed within the curriculum.
